Hannah’s Story

TalkTalk Digital Hero Helen McCabe, Director of HOME CIC is saying farewell to Marketing Apprentice, Hannah Kernott, as she starts her new job as Digital Marketing Executive for the Identity Group.

Hannah started with HOME CIC as a volunteer in 2013 and was offered an Apprenticeship a year later.  Here’s Hannah’s story:

“I have learnt so much at HOME. Since starting as a volunteer back in 2013 my confidence and experience has increased massively. I can’t thank Helen enough for the opportunities she has given me, she has always believed in me and trusted me to carry out major tasks. I don’t believe that I could of gained so much experience anywhere else and it is this experience which has helped me to grow and become a Digital Marketing Executive. Helen has always given me that gentle push to challenge myself and to get out of my comfort zone along with providing me with full support and guidance throughout.

I would strongly recommend volunteering at HOME to anyone. I never would have thought I would get to where I am now when I started out as a volunteer, it just goes to show how rewarding it can be! Helen is always looking for ways to help and her drive is inspiring. I hope to stay in contact with everyone at HOME in the future.”

We’d like to welcome Daniel Swanborough-Nilson to the team as our new apprentice. Daniel started volunteering with us in April and has been helping with website and graphic design. In June he started his apprenticeship with us in Digital Media and Marketing and will be taking on more responsibility at HOME CIC

  • Justin (JPF Homes and Gardens)Enthusiastic and supportive

I was recommended to Helen Owen at Seaside Community hub by a mutual friend. Having returned from almost three years in Europe & Scandinavia, I was initially looking for business networking ideas plus a forum and sound board to deliver them.

Helen was gracious with her time, interested and was able to give me some very early pointers, contacts which I have continued to develop some months later; many thanks!.

Having worked on a lifestyle project with a close friend for several weeks towards the end of last year, I was incredibly disappointed to learn that the role was withdrawn due to various reasons.

So, with a deep breath in week 1, thinking in my feet, I re approached Helen with an outline of my ideas, two business models.

The first, a new approach to working on both house & garden, JPFhomesandgardens the second, a cycle experience in Southern Spain- Velómontaña

We set about designing marketing material in house with the talented Marie Wheeler, a colleague of Helen's, whilst Helen and I worked on the web site content, photographs, project information. Along side recommendations, the whole process evolved and the result is really pleasing.

JPFHomes&Gardens, the first business model was launched in week 6, feel free to take a look!!. We are focussed on the blog element highlighting new projects so our communication continues to build in words & vision.

In conclusion, Helen, Marie and colleagues continue to show enthusiasm, interest and support to my ideas. I feel very privileged and cannot recommend Helen highly enough. It is a natural team environment which is a rare quality in my view.

Thanks to all!. See you in the morning!!.

I would definitely recommend HOME to anyone…

"I was doing my accounting course at Sussex Downs College when I soon realised I would need to gain some work experience. This was to enable me to find an employed position to further my career. I went for my first job interview and unfortunately I wasn’t offered the job but they did provide me with feedback. They said that work experience would be beneficial for me and they suggested Helen Owen Marketing Enterprises (HOME). I started mid-November and enjoyed working with Helen and all the other team members who were all very supportive and helpful. My course at college is coming to an end, so I applied to a local employer making sure my experience at HOME was on my CV. This time I was called in for an immediate interview. The employer contacted me the following week and offered me the job. HOME has allowed me to come out of my shell and meet new people and try new things. I have also been taking part in teaching older people how to use the computer and teach them about social media. I have really enjoyed working and being part of the HOME team and I have made some great friends. Helen and her team have always supported me when I have had important exams coming up. I would like to thank Helen and her team for allowing me the opportunity to gain work experience. If I wasn’t working at Helen Owen Marketing Enterprises, I’m sure I wouldn’t have got the job. I would definitely recommend HOME to anyone".

Thank you for all your help with the website it looks amazing!

Thank you for all your help with the website it looks amazing!

Daniel has created a simple to use website with all the features that I asked for. He took the time to answer questions and show me how to use the admin section so that I can add items to the site myself. Nothing was too much trouble and he was great at communicating with me so that I understood each step of the process.

I am so happy, excited and so thankful!…

"I am so grateful to Helen as she gave me this opportunity! I was looking to gain more experience in accountancy and I met Helen and started to volunteer at Helen Owen Marketing Enterprises. I helped out with the invoicing, bank reconciliation, and book-keeping. Helen recommended me for a full-time book-keeper position last week after she saw it advertised on Facebook. I applied for the job and this morning I was told that I have been successful! I am so happy, excited and so thankful! I would like to recommend Helen Owen Marketing Enterprises for people who are looking for opportunities because I know how difficult it is to find work and volunteering for them helped me to get the job. Helen is a great person, a great leader with good ideas and big and strong plans!

No question too silly, no problem too big…

So grateful to HOME for helping me create a brand new website for my new business. For someone who didn't have a clue they were amazing. No question too silly, no problem too big. Would highly recommend and will definitely be using them again."

Helen and her team have been most approachable…

Helen and her team have been most approachable, helpful and patient in re-launching our website and managing the Eastbourne Family Contact Centre’s email account especially when I have not always understood the process. Helen spent time with me one to one to facilitate our requirements for the website and kept me informed of its progress before it went live. Helen introduced me to another member of her team, Richard, who has also offered support willingly and promptly either by text or email. Both have explained the reasons for any delays. Helen keeps me up to date by email with the range of services ‘HOME’ is able to offer and the opportunities to network with other service providers. I feel confident and happy that the website and email are being taken of by Helen and her team at a competitive price. Thank you!"
